Take a trip back in time with Eileen Burns, former vocalist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra (2012-2013), as she transports you back to an era when beautiful lyrics and melodies were interpreted by great singers.Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration requested. Seating is on a first come first serve basis.
About the program: Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Kay Starr, Helen Forrest, Jo Stafford... these are some of the familiar names who got their start singing in front of a big band. Some went on to find great success as solo artists. Others were not so lucky, and when the the big bands waned in popularity, so did their "girl singers." We will celebrate those songstresses of the 30s, 40s and 50s with stories and the songs you remember, like "Tangerine", "Stardust", "I've Heard That Song Before", "Why Don't You Do Right?" and many more.
