DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Cord Blood Centerannounces the visit ofCleveland Mayor Frank Jackson Wednesday\, September 9th12:30 - 1:30 PM Recently Cleveland Cord Blood Center received notice of accreditation form the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and will join the National Marrow Donor Program to list cord blood units on a domestic and international registry for transplant centers worldwide. CCBD has also been designated as a HRSA bank.  This makes the center one of only 10 in the United States and has been awarded a contrct with The National Cord Blood Inventory (NCBI). The NCBI is part of the Stem Cell Therapeuric and Research ACt of 2005\, Public Las 109-129. This law states that 150\,000 new units of high-quality cord blood will be collected and made available for public use. These cord blood units must meet specific criteria and will be available through the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program to treat patients who need a transplant.
