It is responsible for attracting\, promoting\, and managing major amateur athletic events and to create sporting opportunities for your and amateur athletes. Since its re-founding in 1999\, the Sports Commission has had success in securing 70 events\, including the NCAA Women's Final Four\, NBC Gravity Games\, International Children's Games\, McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game\, an US Olympic Trials Box-Offs. These events had an economic impact of ore than $200 million for Cleveland's economy. Prior to this position\, Mr. Gilbert served as Director of Community Affairs and Special Projects for the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland. One highlight of his tenure was spearheading the funding\, creation\, and operations of the Spirit of Hospitality Career Career Training Program\, an innovative\, new welfare-to-work initiative that received national recognition and acclaim. He serves as Vice President on the Board of the International Children's Games baased in Lausanne\, Switzerland. He has been named one of Cleveland's 40 under 40 by Crain's\, honored with the 2004 Pillar Awards as the Non-profit Executive of the Year and the 2006 Anthem Impact Award.
